A Guide to Egotastic FunTime
Finding Light in the Darkness… with Laser Beams!
Why I Started Egotastic FunTime
I grew up in a circle of nerdy friends, hanging out for hours talking about TV shows, movies, and video games. That was my happy place. Then I moved 1,700 miles away. Suddenly, no friends, no fandom crew—just me.
But fandom doesn’t live in a zip code. It lives in us. And I missed it. I missed the joy, the laughs, the endless debates about time travel rules, and why Captain Picard is obviously the best captain.
So I did the only logical thing: I built Egotastic FunTime. Not because the world needed another YouTube channel, but because I needed to bring fandom joy back into my life—and to invite anyone else out there who still wanted fun, positivity, and hope in their sci-fi.
Now that circle of nerdy friends is bigger than ever. And you’re in it.
What Hope Core Means
Here’s the thing: cynicism is trending. Negativity gets clicks. Entire industries are built on tearing down every nerdy thing that exists. But honestly? Negativity is boring.
Hope Core is my rebellion against that. It’s optimism without naïveté. It’s taking science fiction seriously as a blueprint for how we can live, love, and build a future humanity can actually be proud of.
It means remembering what The Twilight Zone taught me—that the cosmos is wondrous, and that the best way to know who we should be is by seeing who we shouldn’t.
It means asking myself every day: WWJLPD? What Would Jean-Luc Picard Do?—because empathy, listening, and diplomacy will always beat rage-clicks and hot takes. For that, I’ll always thank Star Trek: The Next Generation.
And it means seeing The Orville as proof that I’m not alone—that people still want stories of dignity, respect, and utopian possibility.
Hope Core is choosing to shine light into the dark corners of fandom… and if necessary, blasting it in with laser beams.
The Rules of Egotastic FunTime
- Be Excited. Nerd out. Love what you love.
- Be Open. Debate is great; gatekeeping is garbage.
- Be Empathetic. Sci-fi is about understanding others—let’s practice it here.
- Remember the Cosmos. The universe is vast, wild, and full of possibility. Treat life that way.
- Edge-lords Don’t Set the Tone. Negativity is easy. Hope is harder—and infinitely more rewarding.
Follow those rules, and you’re officially part of the Hope Core crew.
My Setup (Behind the Curtain)
Ever wonder what goes into making Egotastic FunTime? Here’s a peek behind the curtain:
- Elgato Facecam – crisp, clean video without fuss.
- Elgato Wave:3 Microphone – clear audio that doesn’t sound like it was recorded in a starship bathroom.
- Studio Suite 13 – my main editing software of choice.
- DaVinci Resolve – backup flair for editing.
- Elgato Stream Deck – because pressing buttons should feel like piloting the Enterprise.
- OBS Studio – open-source streaming magic.
- The Uniform: black newsie hat, black-rimmed glasses, beard—my own cosplay, worn daily.
It’s not Hollywood magic. It’s just a nerd with some gear, some passion, and a mission to make fandom fun again.
Living the Hope Core Way
Hope Core isn’t just about what you watch. It’s about how you live.
- Look beyond yourself to the universe around you.
- Learn from the stories—you’ll see mirrors of our world in every alien, starship, and time paradox.
- Remember: We all do better when we all do better.
- Reject the edge-lords. Negativity isn’t leadership—it’s laziness.
- Celebrate people for liking what they like. No guilty pleasures. Only joy.
Hope Core is a lens you can bring into your real life—at work, in friendships, in how you vote, even in how you argue online.
